Summer time in Washington, D.C. can be so beneficial for locals who are unable to travel or those visiting. 9 times out of 10 there is a free event going on worth getting out of bed. The Smithsonian Folklife Festival wasn’t the case. In fact, I wish I stayed in bed.
I typically find some use when attending free events, however, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival has to be one of the most boring festivals I have ever been to. Yes, I know that is a little harsh. I found myself confused at its purpose and layout. The crowd was dead and everything was scattered across the national mall making it hard to distinguish what was part of the event.
Perhaps it was this year’s circus theme. If you have small kids who always find everything amusing or you happen to be visiting, I would say it may be worth an hour of your time. Grab a beer, relax, and enjoy the view. After all, you’re surrounded by numerous historic sites to see.
Here’s my photo recap!
(And by recap, I mean the 30 minutes I could bare to stay there.)
More people were at this fountain cooling off than at the festival.
Free ice cream makes everything better.
