This past Saturday, February 27th, we attended the Light Themed Art Installation at The Yards in Washington, DC.
The event kicked off on February 20 from 7pm to 10pm with a large projection visual display moving to the beat of a live DJ.
The light display was designed by New York based light artist and architect John Ensor Parker. He was also accompanied by artist Amanda Parer who created these amazing giant, inflated, luminescent rabbits. If only there was a way inside!
Even though it sounds more like an adult vibe, the event also invited families from 3pm – 6pm to enjoy the wonderful sight of glowing bunnies and children’s activities. However, children were still there once we arrived around 8pm.
The live music began around 7pm with a performance by electric violinist DJ Manifesto. As if being a DJ wasn’t enough, this very creative individual rocked the hell out of his electric violin. I was in awe and will never look at a violinist the same. It was a good mix of EDM and classical music put in one.
Food and beverage were available for purchase during the featured events but we decided to eat before heading there. Restaurants are conveniently located a block or two away if you choose to have more of a sit down meal. We ended up staying for about an hour before heading back in. It was far too cold! Plus, I stupidly wore open toe flats not thinking the grass was going to be wet 🙁
They even gave out glow sticks for FREE!
We walked across this multi-colored light bridge that separated the two art illustrations while jamming to Rihanna’s song “Work”.
