Finger Lickin’ Good: Miami, FL

While in Miami for Ultra Music Festival, we decided to hit up some new and classic places to eat. Here’s an inside look at where we went and what we ordered.

Baru Urbano

3253 Buena Vista Avenue, Miami, FL | http://barurbano.com/baru-midtown

This jazzy Latin bar was our first stop before the festivities began. When we arrived around 12-12:30am, it looked like more of a place for drinks and dancing. Thankfully they did have a late night food menu available. The inside is decked out in all kinds of beautiful and very unique artwork. The music was a mix of Latin and EDM. Good vibes!

What’s on our menu:

Patatas Bravas $7-$9

Potato bites served with “aji” salsa and green garlic sauce

Empanadas Colombianas $9

4 corn-meal patties (beef or chicken) with a side of “aji” salsa

Passion Spice (signature cocktails) $12

          Ketel one citroen

We would recommend the Beef Empanadas Colombianas over the Patatas Bravas. We’ve had better Patatas Bravas at La Tasca but the Empanadas here were mmm mmm, good! Homemade and fresh! The Passion Spice cocktail tasted even better than I imagined. It was served with a cut piece of jalapeno on top which made me think it was going to have a spiced/salty taste. However, it had a good subtle amount of kick with more of the passion flavor. Give it a try!

Havana 1957

451 S Miami Ave, Miami, FL | http://havana1957.com/espanola-way/

Waiting time could be a while since it’s a couple blocks up from the beach. Luckily there was a table available outside once we arrived. Good music and great view of the craziness on the street. It is right across from Cameo Nightclub – flashy, spacious venue with DJs, pole dancing & VIP room. Be mindful if you sit outside, people walking by may bump into you or get really close.

What’s on our menu:

Melissa ordered:

Tostones Rellenos Havana 1957 $15.95

4 green plantain cups stuffed with garlic shrimp, shredded roasted chicken, ropa vieja, ground beef

Raspberry Mojito $12.95

With Bacardi Razz, sugar cane, and yerba buena

Natasha ordered:

Pollo Frito a la Cubana / Half Fried Chicken With Onions Mojo $16.95

Crispy marinated half chicken with a garlic & onion sauce. Served with moro rice & green plantains

Fried cubed pork served with grilled onions and Cuban mojo

Melissa’s meal – YES x 100! This is always our go-to spot when we visit Miami. You can’t go wrong with Cuban food. I would definitely recommend my choices. With the Tostones Rellenos Havana 1957, each plantain cup has it’s own flavor. Variety is always better than sticking to four of the same meats. The raspberry flavor in the mojito gave an extra kick to the taste. The sugar cane is just an added bonus – great to eat after the drink is done. I should’ve gotten two just thinking about it! 😛

Natasha’s meal – The Pollo Frito a la Cubana can be split between two people and you both can still be full. Everyone knows I love onions, so anything with onions in it I would recommend it. But they did not disappoint, both the chicken and pork were juicy and flavorful. The chicken was well seasoned and the pork was crispy and dry on the outside but juicy inside. I would highly recommend these two dishes and just Havana overall. There is a reason we always seem to go back when we’re in Miami.

Coolest diner I’ve ever been to. Located right in the heart of Wynwood’s art district where every building is covered in graffiti art. If the art isn’t enough, inside are some very good looking waiters 😉

Check out the dope artwork in the neighborhood. Visit our story about the Wynwood Walls.

Melissa’s meal – Even though I expected more from the Churro Waffles, I would still recommend trying it. The texture was more of a Churro than the flavor. They should consider adding cinnamon sugar on top. The British Omelette was pretty good but it was the Hash that set it off. It was flavored by the Gods!! Perfectly seasoned and came in a flan shaped form.

Natasha’s meal – The Chicken and Waffles was by far the best I had. I would definitely recommend it. The boneless chicken was cooked to perfection, juicy and crispy. The Waffles were a great combination to add to the saltiness. But who wouldn’t love chicken and waffles, it’s a classic.

Wet Willie’s

760 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach, FL | http://wetwillies.com/Locations/South_Beach.html

Located right across the street from the beach is your spot for frozen alcoholic drinks. “Call a Cab” and “White Russian” are our picks for the strongest. You can ask for a sample before buying/mixing flavors. Just don’t get too greedy 😉

What’s on our menu:

Frozen drinks Medium $11 Large $13

I mixed “Call a Cab” and “White Russian”. Natasha mixed “Naked Willie’s” and “Pinacolada”

Yes, great way to turn up and cool off on a nice hot day. Just don’t drink too fast or you’ll get a killer brain freeze. Also keep in mind that you may not be able to leave with your drink. This was a surprise to us since we normally like to lounge on the beach with ours.

Besides the restaurants listed above, we also ate at your typical fast food restaurants like Checkers and Ihop. I’m glad we were able to try new restaurants and hope this was helpful for you if you plan on visiting Miami.

Whether you’re traveling somewhere for the first or third time, it’s always fun trying out new places to eat. After all, who would’ve thought Churro Waffles existed.
